Exploring Children's Understanding of Well-being Through the Capability Approach: A Study of Bhojpur District, Nepal
Exploring Children’s Understanding of Well-being Through the Capability Approach: A Study of Bhojpur District, Nepal – This study examines how children (Grades 6–8) in five community schools in Bhojpur understand and prioritize well-being using a participatory capability booklet with 56 children, combining 1–10 importance ratings across 21 capability domains with children’s written examples to identify patterns and differences by gender, age, and grade. It is relevant to GESI because it shows how children’s well-being is shaped by unequal opportunities (not just resources) influenced by gender norms and school conditions, and it provides child-centred evidence on where inclusion breaks down (e.g., participation, safety, respect, self-expression) to inform more gender-responsive and inclusive school interventions and policies.
