A seminar on “Policy and Practices of Social Inclusion”

A seminar on “Policy and Practices of Social Inclusion” conducted on 2nd April,2023 in the Kathmandu University School of Arts, Balkumari, Lalitpur covered a wide range of topics related to the inclusion of individuals and groups who are often marginalized or excluded from society. The seminar included the long and complex history of social inclusion which could be traced back to the social welfare movements of the 19th century, which sought to address the issue of poverty.

The connection between the concepts of social exclusion and poverty and deprivation was covered in the discussion. The capabilities approach in relation to social exclusion was also discussed in regard to that issue. In addition to being the root of many different capability failures, social exclusion can contribute to capability deprivation.

This session was a part of the LIKE Lab’s weekly seminar initiative. In all, 10 people attended the session, 7 of whom were female.
