The GESI (Gender Equality/Equity and Social Inclusion) assessment was carried out in the schools of the rural municipalities of Durga Bhagwati and Yamunamai in the Rautahat district by the Learning Innovation and Knowledge Exchange research team at Kathmandu University School of Arts.
In total, 491 students from grades 3 to 8 in both rural communities participated in the survey. The survey was carried out between September 4 to September 15, 2022. During these 12 days, the research team had the chance to explain the GESI framework to local education stakeholders. This framework was created as a part of an effort to conduct GESI diagnosis. During the diagnosis, the participants, and the immediate stakeholders, namely the school teachers, local education officers, and school head teachers were explained on each of the concepts comprising GESI, its importance with regards to their daily lived school practices, and its potential implications for improving students’ GESI experiences.
These municipalities are the research site in Nepal for the research project “ Effectiveness and Scalability of programs for children who are out of school in Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal,” supported by the Global Partnership for Education, Knowledge and Innovation Exchange, and International Development Research Center.
