KATHMANDU, NEPAL, MAY 17, 2024 – The Researchers Meet under the research project, “Promoting Gender Equality and Social Inclusion in Schools, Building on What Children Value and Aspire to Do and Be,” organized under LIKE Lab, Kathmandu University School of Arts, was an event funded by the International Development Research Center (IDRC) and the Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (GPE KIX).
The primary aim of this meeting was to unite researchers within the field of educational research and GESI for a meet and greet session, providing a valuable platform for meaningful exchanges and the sharing of research experiences. The discussions underscored the diverse perspectives and insights of the researchers, contributing to a richer understanding of how to promote gender equality and social inclusion effectively in educational settings.
This gathering brought together 19 researchers, having a common interest in gender equality and social inclusion, consisting of 6 male and 13 female participants, researchers from academia and other institutions. The session started with a discussion on the current state of GESI research concerning children and students in public school education followed by personal experiences and reflections from researchers. Lastly, the discussion moved towards the barriers and enablers in GESI research, and strategies for establishing or strengthening a GESI researchers’ community of practice.
