KATHMANDU, NEPAL, JUNE 21, 2024 – The Media Personnel Meet under the research project, “Promoting Gender Equality and Social Inclusion in Schools, Building on What Children Value and Aspire to Do and Be,” organized by LIKE Lab, Kathmandu University School of Arts, aimed to bring together educational journalists to delve into Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) issues and how the media has covered such issues to date.
This meet marks a step towards creating a symbiotic relationship between media and research, aiming for a more informed and engaged society that values and aspires towards gender equality and social inclusion.The meet proposed incorporating media personnel in field activities, allowing journalists to observe and report first-hand. The role of media as catalysts was emphasized, with discussions on how journalists can highlight the project’s impact and share success stories.
The practical involvement of media personnel with researchers is expected to bridge the gap between research and public perception, making complex data accessible and engaging for a broader audience.The Media Personnel Meet concluded with an acknowledgement that through effective communication of program outcomes, media can play a pivotal role in fostering public awareness and support for GESI initiatives led by the project and beyond.
